Harris Guitar Collection Showcase

During the Biasini Competition (http://www.guitarcompetitionbiasini.org), HGF will present a group of important guitars from the collection—Torres, Hauser I, Bouchet, Simplicio, Santos– with demonstrations by five of SFCM’s finest student players. L. John Harris and David Tanenbaum will co-host the showcase. The presentation will mirror the regular weekly gatherings at SFCM when students come to play and discuss guitars from the collection in the HGF alcove on the mezzanine lever of SFCM.

We are delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved in this project as the non-profit sponsor. The premiere will be part of the bi-annual Biasini Competition and Festival being held this year at SFCM. Special thanks goes to Marc Teicholz who approached Ms. Assad and HGF to make this all happen. Funding for the commission came from a variety of sources, including New Music USA, HGF and SFCM. The OMNI foundation is also co-sponsoring the premiere as part of its new season of guitar concerts.

Foundation Launch Celebration

Join the SFCM guitar faculty and members of the Romero guitar family for an evening of music and merriment to celebrate the launch of The Harris Guitar Foundation. The evening will feature performances by The Pacific Guitar Ensemble on  instruments from the Collection, a food and wine intermission, and a screening of the PBS special,  Los Romeros: the Royal Family of the Guitar co-produced and co-directed by HGF founder, L. John Harris.

Following their performance on December 6 presented by the OMNI foundation and San Francisco Performances (http://omniconcerts.com/concerts/the-romeros/), members of the Romero guitar clan (Pepe, Celin, Lito, Celino et. al.) will join scholar Richard Brune, members of  the SFCM guitar faculty, and other guests to showcase new additions to the Harris Guitar Collection. The evening of lively talk and brilliant music will be hosted by L. John Harris and David Tanenbaum. Featured Guitars: 1901 Jose Ramirez, 1910 Vincente Arias, 1915 Enrique Garcia, 1930 Santos Hernandez,  1948 Marcello Barbero, 1961 Jose Ramirez (PB), 1968 Manuel de la Chica, 1971 Contreras/Rodriguez hybrid, 1984 Miguel Rodriguez “La Maestra”, 1987 Jose Romanillos “La Gaditana.”

Update on  the project:

HGF is excited to be involved in this project and we have good news to share: Marc Teicholz has received a grant from New Music USA that completes the funding of the concerto. Thank you New Music USA! We will report soon on the progress of the piece and Marc will give some of his impressions of it as Clarice Assad nears completion.
